NSC (National Savings Certificate): 5-Year Fixed and Calculator

The National Savings Certificate (NSC) is a 5-year fixed deposit available at post offices and many banks. Minimum investment is ₹1,000 in multiples of ₹100; there is no maximum. The current rate is around 7.7% p.a., compounded annually. The investment qualifies for deduction under Section 80C (up to ₹1.5 lakh). Interest is deemed to be reinvested and is taxable at maturity.

NSC cannot be closed prematurely except in cases like death of the holder or court order. No loan is typically allowed against NSC. On maturity, you submit a discharge form at the same post office or bank to get principal plus interest.

Use our NSC Calculator to estimate maturity amount. The calculator page has full details on opening, closing, and rules.
