EPF (Employee Provident Fund): How It Works and Calculator
The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a statutory retirement scheme for salaried employees in covered establishments. You contribute 12% of basic plus DA, and your employer contributes another 12% (part of which goes to EPS). Interest is declared by the government each year (e.g. 8.15%) and is tax-free along with the maturity amount if you withdraw after 5 years of continuous service.
You don’t open an EPF account yourself—your employer registers you with EPFO and you get a UAN. Withdrawal is allowed on retirement, resignation (after 2 months unemployed), or for partial purposes like home loan, illness, or education as per rules.
Use our EPF Calculator to estimate your balance based on basic+DA, contribution rates, and years. See the calculator page for how to open, close, and withdraw.
